We live in a time where gas prices force many families to think twice about driving to the local store, but high fuel costs shouldn't concern the buyers of the cars below. The Forbes business magazine has put together a list of the top ten most expensive cars in the world. The luxury cars are all street legal, even if they look more comfortable on a race track.
1. Bugatti Veyron
At number is the impressive Bugatti Veyron from France. The worlds most expensive car has a price of €1,000,000 or $1,192,057 USD. The Bugatti Veyron not only claims the title of the most expensive street legal car in the world, but also the fastest and most powerful car in the world. The super car reaches speeds of more than 400km or 250 mph and was named after the French racing driver Pierre Veyron. The 16 cylinders and 1001 horsepower engine should ensure that pulling into gas stations will be something of a regular occurrence on your Sunday outings.
2. Pagani Zonda Roadster F C12S 7.3
The Clubsport version of the Italian/Argentinean Pagina Roadster comes in second place with a price of $667,321 USD. The price will give you 650 hp and car that looks like it should be on a racing track. Pagani is a small boutique supercar builder that makes very few cars each year, so your neighbor probably won't have one.
3. SSC Ultimate Aero
An American car maker comes in at number 3 with a supercar that sells for the super cost of $654,500 USD. Shelby Super Cars (SSC) out of Washington State say that their Ultimate Aero can reach speeds of 273 mph on the track.
4. Leblanc Mirabeau
Out of Switzerland comes the Leblanc Mirabeau with a price tag of $645,084. The Leblanc Mirabeau would not look out of place on the set of a Batman movie nor competing at Le Mans.
5. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo
The second American car on the top ten list is the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo with a cost of $637,723. The Californian based automakers have tweaked the V8 engine to reach 750 hp and do zero to sixty miles per hour in under three seconds.

The first maker with a household name throughout the world to make the list is the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. It comes in at $452,750 and is also the first car on the most expensive list to actually look like a street legal car. The Mercedes SLR McLaren could still handle itself on a race track with a zero to sixty mph time of 3.4 seconds.

For those that are looking for a more luxurious set of wheels to look important in, comes the Maybach 62 at $448,153.
